WHY
WE NEED 'SOUL FOOD & LIVING WATER'
IN THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY
TO
COMBAT A PUBLISHING VACUUM AND PROVIDE DIRECT BIBLICAL NOURISHMENT
FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY...
African-American
Christians are starved for published materials that reflect our
cultural heritage, sustain our strong faith in Jesus Christ and
address the myriad of marriage and family issues that uniquely
affect our lives and communities. As an African-American couple,
we often walk the aisles of bookstores in search of titles that
speak both to our heritage and faith. Too often, we find titles
culturally rich and intriguing, but completely void of sound Biblical
doctrine.
Soul
Food & Living Water provides a cultural aroma and
homegrown flair that bespeaks African-American heritage. On the
other hand, there are the popular mainstream preachers that grace
Christian radio and television; whose books we adore for their
tremendous Bible knowledge and teachable applications. We usually
buy and read these books, with great interest, only to find that
they are culturally alien to our differing struggles as "Christians
of Color." Soul Food & Living Water offers
sound Biblical workmanship that is gracefully enriched
with cultural relevance. It is written to usher into full view
the precepts and principles of the Holy Scriptures for those who
want to establish their culturally rich families upon the concrete
commandments of a Living Lord. African-American Christians need
a resource like Soul Food & Living Water because
it clearly upholds the two defining pillars of our historic family
structure: Faith & Heritage.
TO ADDRESS SPIRITUAL FAMINE AND OFFER A SOUND BIBLICAL
EDUCATION OF FAITH FOR THE UNCHURCHED & SEARCHING...
Over
the last two decades, African-Americans have been looking particularly
to "Black Books" as a primary source of spiritual restoration,
inner strengthening and personal affirmation. It is our strong
belief that contemporary books have greatly replaced old-fashioned
wisdom. What was once handed down through the oral tradition of
storytelling from family elders is now being "passed on"
through the printed page. This is a cultural insight and evangelistic
trend that cannot be ignored by the Christian Church. Therefore
we wanted Soul Food & Living Water to serve
as a source of 'family enlightenment' to the Unchurched and Non-Christian
within the African-American community. It is our prayer that this
book will substantiate that our history is graced by a rich treasury
of faith in the One True and Living God of the Holy Bible.
We
desired to write a book that would disciple the African-American
Christian, while evangelizing and educating the African-American
Non-Christian. The Holy Scriptures declare that "to the hungry
soul every bitter thing is sweet." (Proverbs 27:7) With the
entrance of a New Millenium, an influx of New Age books have emerged,
dressed in Afrocentrism, evoking an essence of Spirituality and
espousing either Self-Worship or the Worship of a Higher Power.
Soul Food & Living Water confronts this "deceitful
disguise," by presenting a wholesome and practical book of
timeless truths that lead to family success and eternal riches
through Jesus Christ alone!
Soul
Food & Living Water is a "great commission"
tool that rekindles Christian faith and resuscitates belief in
the One True God who has helped Christians of African descent
through a horrendous history and continues to be our only source
of help and provison. More than any other family book on the market
for African-Americans, Soul Food & Living Water
is a Spiritual Strengthener and Family Fortifier. It focuses the
community on a Sovereign Savior, who is indeed, the "God
of our weary years, the God of our silent tears." - The
